May 28 Surely Not???Found this in the car park of ASDA. Is this sort of thing really allowed? Looks a bit dodgy to me, don't think I'd like my kids buying from him! Sorry people, perhaps should have specified, this was not actually selling ice cream in the car park, the owner had obviously just popped in to do his shopping! May 26 Replacement Camera... Or NotAs you can probably see, I enjoy taking photographs. I love my little camera, I have a fairly low-spec digital camera, 8mp, 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. I use the recommended batteries, and charge them as regularly as needed.
My camera has been most places with me in the past year, I have captured images of my family, my pets and the wonderful countryside that I live in. I have even entered a photography competition with some of the pictures taken on this camera.
Two years ago I bought a different camera. Similar spec, just a little lower, and after a year the camera broke (see Click Happy). It was duly replaced and now I have the same problem. However, the camera I have now is just one month out of warranty. I returned to the shop it was purchased from, and we spoke nicely to the customer services person. She didn't speak nicely back. She said "we can't do anything, it's out of warranty". To which the Hubs replied "yes, you can do something". She answered "well, yes we can, but..." and then seemed to realise what she had said and busied herself looking for batteries to try the camera.
Not finding any batteries, she returned with a message from her manager stating that they would not help with our problem. Oh, no you don't! If you want to say something, come out of your little office and say it yourself. Which he did, and regretted it. He tried telling us that it was out of warranty, it only last for a year and that year was up last month.
Yes, it is out of warranty, but do you think I would return to a shop unarmed? I know that my consumer rights say I can feasibly expect an electrical item to last for a reasonable amount of time, and a year is not a reasonable amount of time. I am not going to spend £100 a year on cameras. The manager told me that this is European law, not British law, and he is not trained in it. I need to go through Head Office if I want to follow this route, as he is not qualified to deal with the situation.
No-one ever actually looked at the camera to see the problem, and no-one was interested in helping us. I will resolve this situation one way or another, and will not be dealing with this electrical retailer in the future.
I'm off to write to Head Office...
May 21 MehitabelI forgot to mention in yesterday's blog my lovely neighbour, so just thought I'd stick her at the beginning of this one. She is usually quite talkative, in the sense that whenever I am rushing somewhere (which is 80% of the time) she will suddenly appear and talk. And talk. And, well, you get the picture. She once kept me talking for 20 minutes, good job I was only on my way to feed the ponies! Anyway, on Monday she came belting out of the house as I pulled into my driveway and immediately launched into a complaint about the hay on the road. Have I had an accident with the hay? No, not really. Should it have been delivered here? No, not really. Could I clean it up, it's making a mess on her front? Of course Pauline, at once. I do apologise, I will clean it up, not from your front because it is not on YOUR front, but from the road and pavement. Good job I had my handyman around, who was carrying feed bags for me (15kg, I'm not allowed to lift them). She has now decided she isn't talking to me at all, and every time I come out of the house or pull into the drive she quickly shuts her door. Very strange behaviour, she really is isolating herself from her neighbours one at a time. There's a whole other story where she is concerned, but I won't go into that! So, to Mehitabel. In spite of everything that has happened lately, at least I can still laugh. I went for a relaxing bath last night and made the mistake of letting the cat follow me. She dangled her tail in the water and swished it around, then leapt off the bath and soaked everything. Then she decided the highest cupboard seemed like a good place to explore and before I could stop her she had jumped up there. And got stuck. I had to open the bottom cupboard door so she could balance on top and jump into the lower cupboard and back down onto the bath side. But she had not yet finished. Onto the sink, and up to the top of the shower screen. By this time I was really hoping she didn't fall into the bath! I decided it was time I got out, and as she follows me everywhere her leaping around the bathroom was put on hold until this morning when she found the flannel and tried to kill it. She has found all of Ziggy's favourite places by following her nose, and is happy using his cushions and bowls. At the moment she is using a litter tray but she is desperate to go outside. It shouldn't be too long before she can enjoy the sunshine with us. There's no photos yet, but I will upload some as soon as I get her to stay still long enough to take some! May 20 Trouble At t'MillSorry I haven't been on here very much, I have tried to keep up with all your blogs etc but have had no desire to write my own.
I am beginning to think I am cursed, and am wondering why everything goes wrong at once?
My precious Ziggy left us to go and join his friends on the other side of the rainbow. He was only a young cat, barely 2 years old and his life was cruely cut short. I will cherish the memories I have of the short time he spent in our family; my special, handsome, perfect boy.
Just around the same time Esther went back to the sanctuary as there is a family she may be better suited to. The children weren't so put out by this, she was our foster dog after all and they are used to dogs coming and going in a short space of time. I miss her and so does Jasper, but I am assured she is doing fine.
The kids were very upset by losing the cat, they have never really been without a cat in the house. I hadn't intended to get another so soon, but you know what happens when you walk into any sort of rescue shelter...
I only went for a look and to see how much cats were to adopt these days, and returned home with a borrowed cat box containing Hettie, short for Mehitabel. She is a lovely young cat with dark fur and a tiny hint of tortoishell in it. She is very cuddly but a little nervous of the dog so needs some time to settle in. I'm sure she will do well with us.
All this stress hasn't stopped Bump fidgeting around inside me, but it can't be good for us. Deep calming breaths now...
May 15 YouTube VideoCan anyone see my YouTube video? I can't!
I searched for ages to find The Housemartins 'I'll be your shelter' but it just wasn't there. So I settled for 'Sheep' instead. It's a great song, but all I can see is a message telling me that no video has been selected.
I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but let's face it, YouTube is pretty foolproof!
Any chance you can just let me know whether you ca see it or not? Thanks people!
(By the way, its on my space, not on this blog...) May 09 BumpThank you to everyone who has asked about the Bump, I figured it would just be easier to write a little blog and let you know how things are going.
I don't fit in any of my Tshirts anymore, and have resorted to wearing the Hub's shirts instead. Hmm, stylish! People at nursery and toddler group have noticed now that the hot weather has arrived, and are all surprised that I kept it hidden so long. I didn't do it purposely, I was wearing hoodies and big coats because it was cold!
I don't like my midwife, and was even advised by the hospital to change but the doctors told me that it wasn't going to happen, there was only one midwife available. Strangely, on my next appointment, there was someone from the hospital to see me!
I am not having the second scan, we feel that there is no reason to go looking for things that might be wrong (I know all the arguments, wouldn't you rather be prepared, don't you want to know the sex, etc etc) but we thought we would just worry and make things worse if we did the scan. And no, we don't want to know the sex. By the time this baby is born I will know how long it is, its approximate weight, how fast its heart beats and how much hair it has (I hate it when midwives tell you that in labour). The only thing left to find out is the sex, and I want to do that bit. I missed out with Louis because he was born in emergency theatre and was whisked away as he 'forgot' to breathe. One nurse came back and said "He's fine!" and I immediately burst into yet more tears because she had said "he"!
Anyway, things are going fine, Bump is moving around all the time, has regular periods of sleep and fidgeting, and is forcing me to eat chocolate and other things that are bad for me.
My hair is like straw, my skin is terrible, but my eczema has cleared up so I can once more bare my legs. I think this one is a girl, because the same happened with Hannah, but I'll know in about 19 weeks!
May 08 Decisions, DecisionsRight, so that's the morning over with. Ponies fed and watered, Hannah back from nursery, customers dealt with and booked in to have their dogs' hair coiffured, washing hung out and more in the machine, ferrets cleaned out AND YAY! Istnofret is most definitely pregnant. I felt a little shape moving around in her tummy as I picked her up, I hope she can rear this litter because she has never made a very good Mummy before. I felt so sorry for her last year, she really tried her hardest but her babies just didn't survive. There's nothing I can do to help her either, if I interfere, she will disown the babies. But this year the father is Bear, not Rocco, so I wonder if that will make any difference?
It being Thursday, toddler group is an option this afternoon. I haven't been for 2 weeks, what with having to deal with vets a couple of weeks ago and then last week the Hubs was off work so we went swimming instead. Now the question is; do we stay here and play outside (as the kids already are) or do we go to toddler group, socialise, and hope it is cooler in the church hall? Of course, the other consideration is that Louis has gone nappy-free today, and has already had about 4 accidents so if we were at toddler group he would have to wear a nappy again.
Oh dear, you can tell I'm blonde and pregnant, all my brain cells have vanished!
Now MSN has gone mad and decided to deliver all the messages that I have received over the past 2 weeks in one go. And that's quite a lot. Right, I'm off to make some dinner, and prepare for the onslaught of the afternoon. Will be topping up my tan in the field later anyway!
May 04 EstherI promised pictures of the latest addition to our family, but having spent half the afternoon trying to download photos from my 'phone and finding that the software doesn't work I have given up. I had better get some batteries sorted out for my camera and do it properly!
Anyway, Esther has settled in well, she is very large, very muscular and very in the way! She loves Jasper and follows him all over; it almost seems as if she is learning how to be a dog.
At 2 years (ish) old, she has a few problems, but these are already sorting themselves out as she relaxes. Her back legs are rather bandy, and give her some pain sometimes, but nothing stops her wagging her unusually long tail. It is undocked, the way a dog's tail should be. She had some weeing issues when we got her, it seems she had been shouted at for her puppy accidents until she no longer knew what to do at all. She would hold it in until she went to sleep, which meant that as her muscles relaxed she wet herself. She is now becoming more confident that she can come in and out of the house as she pleases and is learning proper bladder control.
The main problem is a recurring abscess on Esther's throat, which means she will need regular checks and should be walked on a Halti rather than a collar and lead.
Since Esther moved in with us most of the neighbours have appeared quite nervous. Esther might be a rottweiler, but she is one of the softest, most docile (and quite stupid) dogs I have ever met. People see the breed, not the real dog, and make assumptions based on what is sensationalised in the press. I would not put my children at risk for the sake of a dog; I would never bring anyone or anything into my home that may present a danger to my family. Esther is well behaved and the children are also taught how to behave around animals. Dogs like Esther get a bad name because of a minority of owners that have them as 'status symbols' an ddon't know how to control them properly. I get savaged more regularly by Yokshire Terriers and West Highland Whites! Now there is an evil dog... |
