    Ready For It?

Louis has been a bit of a problem this week. He has discovered how to open his bedroom door, and has run riot around the upstairs of the house at around 5 o'clock every morning.

Quick thinking me thought I had the solution to the problem. Take the baby gate off the top of the stairs and put it onto Louis' bedroom door. Then he can't get out, and no-one is disturbed when he gets up.

Louis didn't like this idea. He sat behind the gate like a convict, and screamed. And when he had finished screaming, he threw things. Until I ended up in bed with him, trying to calm him down. Not fun.

This went on all week, until this morning, when I had another bright idea. I got up, and made him a sandwich, and a drink of milk. This did actually keep him quiet for about half an hour, but then he started collecting his essentials for the day.

He handed them over the baby gate to me to carry downstairs for him. First a nappy, slippers and woolly hat. Then a toy train, a toy horse, and Scooby-Do. Absolute necessities!

This morning, I need to dash out to the shops, again. i thought I had done it all, but I need angel wings and a halo, which most places have sold out of.  A reliable source told me yesterday that Crystal Peaks shopping centre was open until 8pm, but it wasn't...

TKMaxx don't sell wings, neither does Argos. Mothercare was shut and I know ASDA only has them attached to dresses. Since I want them for Louis, I don't really want the dress! Can't boys be angels too?

So this morning, I somehow have to see to the ponies, order some more haylage, find some wings, and make sure everything is ready for Louis' birthday tomorrow. Think that's gonna happen?

Anyway, as I may not get chance after today, I would like to wish all my wonderful Space friends a very Blessed Yule, and a very Merry Christmas.

    Dear Father Christmas...

    Dear Father Christmas,

I am 3 years old, and I have had a think about what I would like for Christmas this year.

    I would like:

A necklace, a book, a pink house. With an umbrella. To keep the house warm. A silver car like Mummy's, with wheels and windows. A brown cat, called Froggy, to live in my new, pink house. And I would like some paints.

My little brother, Louis, would like a toy car, a new bed, a toy car, some pencil crayons, some Play-doh, and a toy car.

We have been very good, we have looked after our doggies, and our new cat, and have gone to bed when Mummy told us to.

Mummy says you might not be able to fit all those things in your sack this year, but I told her I will be happy with whatever you can fit in.

    Thank you! (Louis says da-da)

    A New Day

    The winter sun rises and

    Orange light shimmers across

    The mountainous peaks of

A hidden kingdom in the clouds.

The mists in the valley below

Swirl and sway in a dance to

The chorus of newly awakened birds.

The wind rustles through the trees and

Leaves cascade to the floor in

A shower of reds and golds.

The silver frosted grass shines beneath

    The molten sky and

    Darkness is cast aside.

    A new day has begun.

    Nativity Activity

Hannah has been going up to 'big school' most days for a while now. I eventually learned that this was to practice singing for the foundation stage Christamas production.
I had never heard of the play they were putting on; Mary's Knitting, so I decided to look it up last night and found a sample of some of the songs. Hannah duly sung along, 2 bars behind the music but with all the words in the right order.
So come this morning, I was sitting in the school hall, wondering why it was that every other child could manage to sing and look happy, while Hannah just stood there, looking as if she really wanted to be elsewhere.
She did say she enjoyed it, but I'm guessing my daughter does not have a career on the stage waiting for her!
Bit of a shame really, because the 'phone rang last night (as I was about to retire to my sick-bed) and the Toddler group leader asked if Han will be Mary at the crib service! Han's friend Charlotte is going to be the angel Gabriel; don't tell me he was male, I know!

    Chloe

Today was the day that we have been trying to put off for a while now. I took Chloe to the vet's and came home without her.
She has been struggling to eat because of a tumour in her throat, and more recently arthritis in her back legs had been giving her pain. In the 18 months or so that Chloe has lived with us, she had lost 17kg in weight, mostly due to her illness.
The vet agreed with our decision and the kids said their goodbyes before we took her.
We stayed with her until the end, so that the children understand what has happened, and why she is not coming home.
Chloe was one of the lucky ones, she only came to the Sanctuary because of a change in her family's circumstances, she lived a long and very happy life and was loved by many people. We will miss her but there will be room in our home, and our hearts for another foster dog before too long.

    Quick Update

Here's a quick one for you, because my internet link is being more temperamental than usual.

Winston and Apollo have been resting and eating lots of fattening haylage, and will soon be ready for building some muscle up and enjoying some more riding. Apollo went out for a gentle jaunt on Saturday, and really enjoyed himself. No more instances of choking, he has had his teeth filed (they grow continually) and is much better now. Still greedy, but that will never change!
Chloe is getting more poorly, and we have made the decision to have her put to sleep this week. I have informed the Sanctuary of our decision, and will be calling the vet first thing in the morning. Chloe's cancer has spread, she now has lumps all over her body, and it is causing problems when she eats. I know she wouldn't make it through Christmas, so it is better to make sure she won't suffer.
The ferrets are looking gorgeous in their white winter coats, Istnofret especially. She is a dark eyed white, so is quite unusual. I will try to get some photo's of them on here soon.
As for the kids, little horrors! Advent chocolate is making them giddy, and they are wearing themselves out running around so much. Hannah has her first school rpodution this week, as well as the both of them having Christmas and birthday parties to attend. Father Christmas is visiting toddler group on Thursday, watch out for the screaming!
I haven't put up the decorations or tree yet, but I'm going to need something to distract me this coming week, so by next weekend the house will be bright and festive!

    Why?

    Why...

Are children's toys attached to the packaging with screws?
In my infinite wisdom I decided before wrapping the Christmas presents I would remove all the packaging so that it was all ready to play with when opened. The wire twists that manufacturers used to use were bad enough, but now they insist on using minute screws and pieces of plastic to attach things to the cardboard packaging. So I sat at the table, turning red, huffing and puffing, trying to remove a cross head screw with a straight head screwdriver because its the only thing I had that small! All done, wrapped and ready to go. Also test driven!

Are there two types of shop assistant; those that pounce on you the moment you walk through the door, and those that ignore you at all costs, even when you ask for help?
I hate shop assistant that are obviously on commision and lie in wait for you coming in the shop. They then proceed to follow you around asking what you are looking ofr, what size/colour/style and won't leave you to make your choice.
Similarly, shop assistants who have no idea what products they sell or are too busy doing nothing to help once you have browsed can be infuriating.

Do I blow up lightbulbs wherever I go?
I am sick of having to buy new lightbulbs, especially the candle ones we have in the living room. It's not too bad at the moment, but sometimes they really go with a bang when I walk into the room! I blew 2 yesterday, but not with the dramatics that we sometimes get. Just a kind of fizzle really.

Do we own dogs but cats own us?
A dog can be trained to do pretty much whatever we want; they can sniff out drugs, help the disabled, or just be a fun family pet. They will sit, lie down and beg on command.
But own a cat, and eventually you will realise that it has trained you. You will feed it, let it out and cuddle it when it demands. You will buy only the best food, allow it to sleep on the bed and even sit on thefloor rather than move your sleeping cat from the armchair.
Who is responsible for such a role reversal? I blame the ancient Egyptians.

    Christmas Shopping

I had to write this blog after visiting one of my friends at her space. I went Christmas shopping with Momma and the kids yesterday at Meadowhall and it was a nightmare! Absolutely packed, although it was only dinner time when we arrived and the kids were still in school.
There were decorations everywhere, with a teddy bear theme this year. Huge baubles were hanging from the ceilings and balconies, and an enormous Christmas tree stood in the cente of the Oasis (food court).
Just about every shop was playing some sort of festive music, some carols, some Cliff Richard, and obviously, some Slade!
The government has been warned lately by a 'think-tank' that it should not allow Christmas to be so popular, or should at least bring more recognition to holidays and festivals for other religions. I would be glad for my children to learn about other religions and be able to respect both the differences and similarities between them.
Since this country is becoming so multi-cultural there should be more tolerence for each other.
So, Happy Christmas,  Happy Hanukkah, Happy Eid, Blessed Yule and whatever else there is in December!
If I missed anyone, please don't be offended...Open-mouthed

    Christmas/Yule Greetings Cards

Ok, here they are. The cards I have been working on over the last few days. I decided they are now good enough for the world to see, and if anyone likes the look of them, let me know.
I am selling them at £1.50 each, and they add a personal touch amongst all the mass produced cards that are around at this time of year.
I can post all over the UK, and can also take commissions for birthday or special occasions cards.
Just remember to let me know whether it is Yule or Christmas you want them for, and I will leave the inside blank for you to write your own message.
Leave me a message or send an email if you want any, and I look forward to hearing from you!
