July 06 Rocco, and sad news.Rocco went to the vet's today for neutering. He was returned to me this afternoon looking alert and well but very sore. Once everything has settled down he should be able to meet his new family and move back in with them. The stitches are dissolving so there is no need to take him back to the vet unless I am worried about something. But he is a young, healthy boy and there is no reason anything should happen.
I recieved sad news this afternoon about a fellow biker, Mick. He was killed in an accident yesterday afternoon. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time. Mick will be greatly missed by many people. Ride in peace mate xx June 30 Naming TimeIt’s been difficult to choose names for the baby ferrets, firstly because I wasn’t sure that they would survive and secondly because I like unusual names for my animals. In the past I have used Arthurian names, musically inspired names, and Egyptian names as well as several other random names in between. I was going to continue the Egyptian theme, but decided instead to go with a Greek So, welcome… Morpheus and Khaos; the boys and Artemis, Gaia and Persephone; the girls. I have lots of photos of them but most show just a tangle of fur and legs. I will try to post some individual pictures now that Istnofret is relaxing more with them. The babies are starting to open their eyes, and, much to Istnofret’s consternation, regularly wiggle out of their bed to explore the hutch and find tasty morsels to eat. Rocco, on the other hand, is miserable. He has not been allowed back into the main hutch yet as he is quite an aggressive male, and he is bored on his own. Next week he is going for the snip, which will calm him down and allow me to put him back in with his family. It’s going to be great to have a large group (or business) of ferrets again, I did fear that I was loosing the chance to continue my breed line and Istnofret and Rocco would become my last two. But these little guys are doing well, their personalities are shining through already and I am looking forward to watching them grow up. Watch this space! June 25 Employment ends....Now!So, the Hubs' work phone rings at 7.45 yesterday morning for him to go out on a callout. He duly dresses in his hi-viz and jumps in his lorry to rescue the broken down van stacked high with cakes.
I made his sandwiches ready for when he returned to the depot and logged on to check the bank, it being pay-day. Nothing.
Thent he post arrived. Pay slip first. Accompanied by a letter suggesting that because the customers haven't paid their bills, the company has no money to pay their staff. They plan to pay half his wages on Friday (2 days late) and the other half the following Friday.
Then came a handwritten envelope, addresses to the Hubs. Well, I open his post anyway so I pulled out another letter from his employers that says as from this date (24th June, which it was) the Hubs services were no longer required by the compnay and they wish him all the best for the future. Could he please return his mobile, fuel card and hi-viz wear to the depot?
I called him and explained the contents of the letter, to which the Hubs replied "So what do I do now?". My suggestion? Stop the truck, get out, and I'll come and fetch you. So he did. And I did.
When will companies learn not to sack drivers while they are driving?
Why did they call him out if they knew he wasn't employed from that date?
And why did they expect him to bring their truck back?
I t did not state on the letter that he had to return the truck, just the mobile, fuel card and hi-viz.
Each truck is fitted with a tracker, which the company are very keen on using to trace drivers to dock wages if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, the trackers are not quite calibrated correctly, so the Hubs hid the truck (out of the way so it couldn't be stolen ) in the back corner of an industrial estate and let the company recover their own vehicle. It apparently took an hour and a half to find it, although it was only a 15 drive away from the depot!
So now he is back to job hunting, trying to find something that doesn't put him back in a garage as a mechanic. June 23 Our Walk...I was going to tell you about our lovely walk in Shirebrook Valley. The kids took their bikes and we stopped to look at the millions of tadpoles and damselflies.
Unfortunately, it was marred by a car being dumped and set alight on the road just outside the valley, where we needed to walk to get our car.
I called the fire brigade and the road was blocked off by police. It very quickly became apparent that this was not just a joyrider who had burnt out a stolen car.
We had to walk for nearly an hour to get around the cordoned off area and I have since had a phone call from the Violent Crime division who want to come out and get a statement of what I saw. problem is, I didn't actually see anything. Just a burning car. But they want more details so I'm now waiting on them turning up.
I will let you know more if I get any answers myself... June 15 Lost Dog15th June 2009
Jasper is missing due to the thunderstorm this morning. He has never been gone so long, it's now been 10 hours.
I have called the dog warden (open 9 - 5 mon - fri) the RSPCA (10 - 4, mon - fri, except wed) and posted up on the biker forum.
Jasper is a white collie cross with blue merle patches.
He has a torn ear and is wearing a tatty brown leather collar.
His eyes are part coloured, blue and brown.
He is microchipped and neutered.
